Ways to Save the Day

Ways to Save the Day (2021) is an artists’ book that explores that language that we use to talk about girlhood. The text in this book is drawn from textual analysis of Pleasant Company’s original six American Girl series, specifically the fifth book of each series, which focuses on one girl’s efforts to “save the day”. This book takes selections from the various texts, rearranging them, combining them and manipulating them to show the differences in tone and to draw attention to the ways that girls’ emotions are described in this specific literature.
